Filandia, situated in the heart of the Quindío Department, is surrounded by vibrant green farmland, dense forests, and hazy purple mountains.

We loved learning about coffee, distinguishing the fragrances and aromas, and learning how to use all senses in the process! The tour was hands-on, and informative, and we left with a newfound appreciation for the world of coffee!
Day 2: Salento and Cocora Valley
Start by taking in the beautiful town of Salento, with its colorful facades, and charming ambiance. We loved having some traditional merengon in one of the small cafes in the main square.
Hike through the magical Valle del Cocora, part of Colombia’s Coffee Triangle famous for its towering wax palm trees.
Begin your day by meeting your guide and making your way to the entrance of the valley. Trek beneath the trunks of the national tree of Colombia, the Quindio wax palm, and capture breathtaking photos at various viewing points. If you’re lucky, you might witness the mists enveloping the valley, creating an ethereal atmosphere.

Day 3: Pereira and Hacienda Venecia
Founded in 1863, Pereira is the capital of Risaralda and the economic powerhouse of the Zona Cafetera – a hot commercial center most noted for its throbbing nightlife.
Explore Pereira and visit the iconic Hacienda Venecia. We had an incredible tour of the hacienda where the beloved TV series “Café con Aroma de Mujer” was filmed.
Walking through the breathtaking landscapes of Manizales in the coffee region, we delved deep into the heart of Colombia’s coffee paradise.
Day 4: Shopping and Relaxation in Pereira
Pereira, while not a typical tourist destination, offers a dynamic urban experience with vibrant nightlife and excellent dining options. It’s also a great place for shopping. Spend the day exploring the city’s markets and shops. If you’re considering a longer stay, Pereira is ideal for a relaxing city break, offering all the amenities of a modern city with a laid-back vibe.
Day 5: San Vicente Hot Springs
End your trip with a relaxing visit to the San Vicente hot springs from Pereira. These natural thermal baths are perfect for unwinding and reflecting on your adventures in the Coffee Axis. The therapeutic waters and tranquil setting provide the perfect finale to your Colombian journey.

While in the coffee region, savor traditional Colombian dishes such as the tasty ajiaco, soft almojabanas, de quintessential bandeja paisa and our latest discovery: ceviche de chicharron, and don’t forget to sample Colombian street food like empanadas cooked on charcoal grills.

- Warm or wool clothes, because it can get cold, especially at night if it is rainy season. Dress in layers, the day may be sunny and then turn a bit chilly later in the afternoon.
- Bringing a reusable water bottle can help nature and the environment while you stay hydrated.
Dress in layers as you will quickly get warm during the walks and when the sun is out, and remember that the weather can be pretty unpredictable. The temperature drops somewhat when the clouds block the sun.
